U.V.S. 2018
U.V.S. is a team competing in Sensus 2018, its university is the Uppsala Univesity. For Sensus 2018, U.V.S. investigated the possibilities for creating a biosensor which is able to measure the concentration of Vancomycin. The full TRD can be found via this link
Method
Diffusion Immunoassay
Molecular Recognition
Vancomyocin or synthetic vancomyocin fluorophore is bound and recognized by antibodies that flow freely
Physical Transduction
The vancomyocin in the sample competes with synthetic vancomyocin fluorophore for a spot on the antibodies. These two mix because two streams are pumped next to eachother on the cartridge and the vancomyocin diffuses into the stream of antibodies. The amount of fluorescence present is then measured by using a LED, light filters and a USB microscope to measure the amount of light produced.
Cartridge
There are two inlets, one for the antibody stream and one stream that combines the synthetic vancomyocin fluorophore and the sample. These two streams are pumped into a single stream, where they interact.
