Team Sandbox SensImperial is a team competing in Sensus 2018, its university is the TU EindhovenImperial College of London. For Sensus 2018, Team Sandbox SensImperial investigated the possibilities for creating a biosensor which is able to measure the concentration of [[Vancomycin]]. == Method ==
Spectrophotometry (Light absorbtion). Vanomycin has the property that it absorbs photons of a specific wavelength, the strength of the absorbtion is the dependant on the concentration. By looking at the transmission for a specific wavelenght of light the concentration of Vanomycin can be determined.Competitive Lateral Flow Assay
==Molecular Recognition ==
The detection method uses a large complex with a gold nanoparticle at the centre and vancomyocin and biotin on the outside, which have a bright red colour. When vancomyocin is present, this large complex is based displaced from its original position on an vancomyocin antibody and binds to a line of streptavidin. This change in colour intensity signals the amount of vancomyocin in the absorbance properties that vancomycin possesses. serum 
== Physical Transduction ==
UV light (280 nm) was immited on a quartz cuvette. The light that change in colour is not absorbed passes through detected by an optical filter (bandpass filter with center wavelength 300 nm) app running a neural network, which then falls on is taught to detect the change in colour and convert it into a sicilone detectorparticular concentration of vancomyocin.
== Cartridge ==
To The plasma spiked with vancomycinis pipetted onto the membrane, trichloroacetic acid (TCA) is added. The mixture is which then centrifuged at 15000 rpm for 3 mins to separated proteins from plasma. Thentravels up the membrane, where it picks up the supernatant is seperated from large complex and encounters the precipitated proteins, two lines of antibodies and diluted to 1:10 volume ratiostreptavidin.
